  7. I find more hardware is affected by this issue: https://www.dell.com/community/Latitude/Dell-Latitude-7285-keyboard-issue/td-p/6125388

Now it’s also Dell 9250/7275 (I tested XPS with BIOS 1.4.1).

It’s really sad to see that such deal-breaking bugs in firmware doesn’t get fixed, even when this is reported to both of tech. support and on forum.

As I understand there is really no way to get Dell fix this?

    Hi,

    Thanks for the detailed article.
Do you know if the 5540 will have the webcam placed on top of the screen again ?

Work Laptop is out of warranty and needs replacement.

I find the thinkpads too bulky to carry around so would prefer to keep a light but powerful 15in Dell to run Linux on.

I was looking at getting a 5530 ordered but I do a lot of video conferencing so the webcam on the bottom seems like a no-go.

    Thanks !

  27. Hi Romain, Im happy to say that, like the XPS 13 we have moved the camera to the top — “IR camera option & HD camera moved to top of the bezel”

That’s awesome. I am looking for a new Dell computer fully compatible with Ubuntu. Also, unlike the XPS, the addition of a GPU is great! Thank you for the Sputnik project, Barton.

Looks like you can’t buy the UHD version with Ubuntu (unlike previous editions)? That means I can’t upgrade from my current 5530. Also, any update on getting it with the i9 but no Nvidia discrete?

    Hello,

Looking at the online configurator for the 5540 I am a bit confused.

Could you confirm that the full HD ( UltraSharp IGZO4 FHD (1 920 x 1 080)) screen come with a camera by default and only the IR camera is an option ?

The presence of the camera is not mentioned in the specs so I’d like to make sure there is indeed one without the need to customize the build with the IR option

    Thanks !

They need to replicate your website onto Dell’s main page. Finding Linux laptops for each model is a giant PITA on their site. Where is the Linux only section? We already know everything has Windows on it.

I really wish dell would stop burying the lead. I’m trying to buy a linux laptop now for my mother, and it sucks that I have to point her at a blog to see which one she likes.
